From mid 1984 and through the 1985 model year Ford offered a performance version of the LTD, the LTD LX, standard with a high output 5.0 liter CFI V8, four speed automatic with overdrive, stiffer springs, sway bars, and a 3.27 rear gear with a Traction Lok differential. It was the only LTD of this generation with a tachometer. Mercury's counterpart, the Marquis LTS, was sold only in Canada in 1985.
