The Kadett D was also equipped with a 1600 cubic centimeter diesel engine, an option first presented at the Brussels Motor Show in 1982. From May 1981 the 1.3 was also available with a three speed automatic, made available to the diesel in September 1982. One interesting version which first appeared in mid 1982 was the Kadett Pirsch. By 1982 the Opel lineup was limited to the Berlina and the sporty 1.6 SR.
