In November 1980 a two liter gasoline turbo was added, with electronic injection and up to 145 PS, and in April 1981 turbo cars, gasoline and diesel, got an automatic. A minor change in November 1981 added bumper guards and moved the license plate to the center of the rear bumper, and expanded the ECI turbo to the two liter gasoline cars. The Sigma of 1981 was in its second year as the fourth generation. The Greek letter Sigma in the Galant Sigma name was meant to mean a summing up of the effort of the maker.
