The P100 name had been used earlier on a small North American panel van in the 1960s, before the South African pickup took it for 1982. In 1981 the pickup was still sold as the Ford 1 Tonner in South Africa, on the front end of the Taunus TC3 and Cortina Mk5. It began as the Cortina Pickup and ended in 1995 on the Sierra, built in Portugal. The P100 was a coupe utility pickup that Ford built on the front half of a family car, sold first in South Africa and then in Europe.
