Australian Colts were given model codes RA from November 1980, then RB in October 1982, RC in April 1984, RD in October 1986 and RE in September 1988. The Mirage of 1980 was in its third year, sold as the Mirage in Japan and as the Colt in many other markets, since the Mirage name was used for the hatchback in only some of them. In Japan the Mirage was sold at a retail chain called Car Plaza. The Mirage hatchback models of 1978 to 2003 were classed as subcompact cars, while the sedan and wagon, sold as the Lancer, were compact.
