The Galant Sigma of 1979 was in its fourth year, the third generation of the Galant and the first Sigma, the best selling of all the Galant models in history. Its success took Mitsubishi to third place in the industry. The driving school version had the large bumpers and a tachometer of the North American version as standard, which beginners liked as a guide for working the clutch. Sigma was a model name that Mitsubishi used on several vehicles based on the Galant and the Diamante.
