In March 1978 the 2000 GSR was dropped and the sister car Galant Sigma Eterna was launched with the setting up of the Car Plaza stores. In October a minor change gave all cars SAE standard square four headlamps and larger rear lamps, a semi slant nose, and large impact absorbing urethane bumpers on the 1600 SL Super and the 2000 GSL and above. The three pointed star M emblem of Mitsubishi began with this model. The Galant name is French for gallant and brilliant.
