The Minica of 1979 was in its third year as the Ami 55, a front engined, rear wheel drive kei sedan with the 546 cc Vulcan II G23B engine and the unusual Panhard rear axle layout, and the Minica Van still used the old second generation body. The sporting Minicas of the early seventies were now a memory, though the bigger engine gave some useful additional torque. The traditional Panhard layout remained. The Minica 55 Van was available in a few different equipment levels.
