In 1979 the Lancer EX was presented in Japan, with revised styling and integrated plastic bumpers like the recently introduced Galant and Sapporo, as a four door sedan only, while the Celeste coupe and wagon continued for a few years. It grew in all dimensions, and had a 1.4 liter MCA-Jet engine of 80 PS with Silent Shaft technology, and a 1.6 liter of 85 PS. The 1600 GT of 86 PS arrived, sold until 1983. The EX was more spacious than the car it replaced and grew in all dimensions.
