The 1979 Colony Park began the sixth generation on the Ford Panther platform, shedding over 11 inches in length, 6.6 inches in wheelbase and slightly over 1,000 pounds against 1978, with eight passenger seating still standard. It moved to the Grand Marquis model line, placing it above its Country Squire counterpart in trim and leaving room for a Marquis wagon without woodgrain. It shared the 302 Windsor V8 with the Monarch.
