Between 1979 and 1982 a number of electric Ford Couriers were produced, using bodies without engines bought as gliders by a converter. The 1979 Courier was a compact pickup built by Mazda in Japan, with a 1.8 litre engine or an optional 2.3 litre, and sold in the United States by Ford. It began as a sedan delivery, became a Mazda built compact pickup, and later a Fiesta based van and coupe utility. The Courier was a Ford nameplate used on very different vehicles in different places and years, from sedan deliveries to pickups and vans.
