The 1978 Ford Econoline was the first ever Truck of the Year as chosen by Motor Trend magazine. It was a body on frame van with a full frame, sold as an Econoline cargo van and as a Club Wagon passenger van, with a drivetrain shared with the F Series pickups. The E Series was Ford's full size van, sold as the Econoline and Club Wagon and as a cutaway chassis. It was the best selling full size van in the United States from 1980 until the Transit replaced the vans in 2014.
