The design of the Econoline of 1977 served as the basis for many ambulances, and for various types of trucks and buses. Its drivetrain was shared with the F Series, which led to the start of aftermarket four wheel drive conversions of the full size van. It was the best selling full size van in the United States from 1980 until the Transit replaced the vans in 2014. The E Series was Ford's full size van, sold as the Econoline and Club Wagon and as a cutaway chassis.
