New grilles highlighted all 1977 Cutlass models, with Cutlass S sedans and coupes reverting to an upright grille and front end while the more aerodynamic slanted front end was only offered with the 4-4-2 option. Oldsmobile nameplates in a new sans serif typeface replaced the former script ones, and 632,742 Cutlasses were built in 1977, the highest production for the model. The Cutlass line peaked in 1977 with a record year.
