The Taunus TC2 of 1977 was almost identical to the Cortina Mk IV, differing in specification changes and trim levels and in the position of the steering wheel, and it was sold in Germany and across Europe. It was also produced in Argentina by Ford. It was named after the Taunus mountain range in Germany and was often a close relative of a British Ford. The Taunus was the family car of Ford Germany, sold under the 12M, 15M, 17M, 20M and 26M names over several generations.
