The Laguna trim package was replaced for 1976 by the Malibu Classic, which used a stacked arrangement of four rectangular headlights and offered the Chevrolet built 250 cubic inch inline six as the base engine. The Laguna S-3 model, which had been introduced to replace the SS, continued through 1976. The Laguna S-3 was still sold that year as the sporty model that had replaced the SS, so the range combined a luxury Malibu Classic with that performance package.
