In 1972 the 429 cubic inch option of the Colony Park was replaced by a 460 cubic inch V8 sourced from Lincoln. The standard engine remained the 400 cubic inch V8, a necessity because of its nearly 5,000 pound curb weight. The Colony Park was the Marquis line wagon with covered headlights, simulated woodgrain panels and the reworked Magic Doorgate of the fifth generation. It was the premium Mercury wagon, part of the Marquis line, with simulated woodgrain body panels.
