A sliding rear door became an option on the Econoline for 1972, and the Hi Cube van was introduced on a cutaway chassis, a cab chassis version of the Econoline with a box van body. It was popular in the recreational vehicle industry as a Class C motorhome chassis. The E Series was Ford's full size van, sold as the Econoline and Club Wagon and as a cutaway chassis. It was the best selling full size van in the United States from 1980 until the Transit replaced the vans in 2014.
