For 1966 the rear tailgate was updated, marking the debut of the two way Magic Doorgate shared with all other Ford and Mercury station wagons, which let the tailgate fold down or swing out to the driver's side as a door. Mercury added two more FE V8 engines, a 330 horsepower 410 Marauder and a 345 horsepower 428 Super Marauder, alongside the 390. The Colony Park was a body on frame wagon with a coil spring live rear axle, sharing its roofline with the Ford Country Squire.
