Model year 1964 was the fourth and final year of this body style, with altered interior trim and a more sculpted exterior designed to make the car more aerodynamic for NASCAR. The formal roof boxtop style was dropped, all non wagon models taking the fastback roof that had been the runaway best seller in 1963. The base 300 was replaced by a line of Custom and Custom 500 models, the 289 remained the base V8, and 50 lightweight 427 cars were built for drag racing.
