The Sting Ray arrived for 1963 as an all new car with newfound handling, and it was also a little lighter, so it accelerated better with no change in horsepower. Chevrolet built 21,513, half as many again as in 1962. The 1963 coupe was the only C2 with a split rear window, every car had a 327 cubic inch engine, and only 199 Z06 racing packages were built that year. It was the first Corvette with the Sting Ray name, which came from a racing car designed by Bill Mitchell.
