The second generation Corvette, called the Sting Ray, was new from the ground up for 1963 with a coupe body shaped after a racing Sting Ray, hidden headlamps and, for the first time, independent rear suspension. It kept the 327 cubic inch small block at first and moved up to big block 396 and 427 engines, with four wheel disc brakes arriving in 1965. A fixed roof coupe and a convertible were sold. Its model years run from 1963 to 1967.
