The last solid axle Corvette, the 1962, had a larger engine and was the quickest Corvette up to that time. It saw rocker panel trim for the first time and exposed headlights for the last time until 2005. The next Corvette, the Sting Ray of 1963, brought independent rear suspension and a new body. Its exposed headlights would not be seen again on a Corvette until the sixth generation arrived in 2005, because the next car had hidden lamps, and its rocker panel trim was new.
