The 1961 Colony Park began the third generation, built on Ford underpinnings after the end of Edsel and dimensionally much smaller than in 1960. It remained the luxury level Mercury, with many optional items included in the listed price of 3,118 dollars, and 7,887 were sold. In place of the 430 MEL V8, Mercury fitted three separate V8 engines, with a 292 Y block V8 as the standard engine for 1961. It was built on Ford underpinnings.
