For the 1961 model year the Dart continued as the smallest full-size Dodge on the 118 inch wheelbase, restyled to resemble the larger Polara, with the Phoenix, Pioneer and Seneca trim levels. Virgil Exner's styling with reverse fins and a concave grille was unpopular. It was an off year for the car market, and Dodge production fell to 269,367 units, of which 142,708 were Darts. Dart sales included 66,100 of the Seneca line, down from 111,600 in 1960.
