Available in Japan between November 1960 and 1966, the Subaru 450 increased the engine's displacement to 423 cc using the Subaru EK51 series engine. Its maximum output reached 23 PS. The 360 itself remained in production, and the larger 450 was meant to accommodate the city car market and export markets. The Subaru 360 was designed in response to the Japanese government's light car or kei car regulations and its proposal for a larger national car.
