The Taunus 17M P3 of 1960 had a completely new body and was completely restyled, with a streamlined form that earned it nicknames including Badewanne, or bathtub. It had a choice of three engine sizes from 1.5 to 1.7 litres, replacing the baroque finned P2. The Taunus was the family car of Ford Germany, sold under the 12M, 15M, 17M, 20M and 26M names over several generations. It was named after the Taunus mountain range in Germany and was often a close relative of a British Ford.
