The Taunus P3 of 1961 offered greater interior space inside a streamlined body at a time when rivals boasted that all four corners were visible from the driver's seat. In Germany streamlining was linked to the narrow cabins of the 1930s and the Volkswagen Beetle, and the car sold in moderate numbers. It was named after the Taunus mountain range in Germany and was often a close relative of a British Ford. The Taunus was the family car of Ford Germany, sold under the 12M, 15M, 17M, 20M and 26M names over several generations.
