Only 252 plus two prototypes were built before the production of the 507 was terminated in 1959. BMW lost money on each 507 built, which resulted in the company's losses of 15 million Deutsche Mark for 1959. Decades later at least three dozen surviving examples became highly coveted at public auctions, making them the most valuable BMWs ever built in the brand's history. The 507 was a commercial failure.
