The Taunus 17M P2 of 1958 used an overhead valve engine of 1698 cc and 60 PS, and it had a top speed quoted as 128 kilometres per hour. A road test of the time commended the smoothness of its three speed all synchromesh manual transmission, and the 12M and 15M continued as the smaller line. The Taunus was the family car of Ford Germany, sold under the 12M, 15M, 17M, 20M and 26M names over several generations. It was named after the Taunus mountain range in Germany and was often a close relative of a British Ford.
