The series was moved upmarket again when the 1957 DeSotos were introduced with the new entry level Firesweep, based on the Dodge, below it, which made the Firedome the mid range DeSoto. A new air conditioner was offered, and the 1957 car carried Chrysler's Forward Look styling like the rest of the line. Quality problems with the 1957 models later hurt DeSoto's sales in the recession year that followed.
