The BMW 507 made its debut at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York in the summer of 1955, and production began in November 1956. Thirty four Series I 507s were built in 1956 and early 1957. The car had been conceived by the American importer Max Hoffman, who persuaded BMW management in 1954 to make a roadster version of the 501 and 502, and was designed by Albrecht von Goertz. The Series I cars were the first 507s.
