The Courier of 1953 was sold only as a two door vehicle, and it was first designed with a side hinged rear cargo access door that was unique to the model. It replaced the rear seat area of the Ford station wagon with a flat load floor, with painted steel panels in place of side windows. It began as a sedan delivery, became a Mazda built compact pickup, and later a Fiesta based van and coupe utility. The Courier was a Ford nameplate used on very different vehicles in different places and years, from sedan deliveries to pickups and vans.
