In 1953 Chevrolet renamed its series and the Bel Air name was applied to the premium model range, covering a number of body styles rather than a single hardtop. The 1953 Chevrolet was advertised as entirely new because of its restyled body panels, front and rear ends, though it had similar frames and mechanicals to the 1949 to 1952 cars. It was the first year for a curved, one piece windshield, and options such as power steering and the Guidematic headlight dimmer were offered.
