Denza

Vehicle and Equipment Manufacturers

Denza, whose full name is Shenzhen Denza New Energy Co., Ltd., is a luxury plug-in electric vehicle brand owned by BYD Auto. It began in May 2010 as an equal joint venture between BYD and Daimler AG, today Mercedes-Benz Group, and the brand name was introduced in March 2012. The first model, the Denza EV, went on sale in December 2014 in selected Chinese cities and was restyled in 2018 as the Denza 500. In 2021 Daimler cut its share to 10 percent, leaving BYD with the rest, and in September 2024 Mercedes-Benz handed over its remaining stake, making Denza a wholly owned BYD brand. The line-up was refreshed with the D9 MPV, the N7 and N9 SUVs and the Z9 full-size car, and exports began in 2024, starting with Southeast Asia. The name is invented from the Chinese Tengshi, roughly rising power and momentum.
