The Denza 500, also sold as the Denza EV and the Denza 400, is a Chinese electric car produced by Denza, a joint venture between BYD Auto and Daimler AG. The Denza EV began as a concept shown at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show and was tested as a prototype at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show. It is based on the same platform as the Mercedes-Benz B-Class, with an electric powertrain from the BYD e6 that produces 137 kilowatts at the front wheels and a top speed of 150 kilometres per hour. It was launched in 2014 with a range of 352 kilometres, a 400 kilometre version arrived in 2017 as the Denza 400, and a 2018 facelift added a restyled front and rear, a new interior and the Denza 500 name. The 500 has a 70 kilowatt-hour battery, up from 62, and Denza quotes a range of 451 kilometres on the NEDC cycle for this latest version made only for the Chinese market.
