Toyota Hilux (third generation, N30 and N40)

Automobiles

The redesigned Hilux, marketed as the Hilux California in Japan, was introduced in August 1978, with a four wheel drive variant introduced in January 1979. The L series diesel engine was offered on the rear wheel drive variants from September 1979 and on four wheel drive variants beginning in October 1981, when the N40 chassis also became available as a double cab. Production of the N30 and N40 stopped in July 1983, and research for the Trekker led to the 4Runner and Hilux Surf.
