The third generation Chaser, the X70, first appeared in August 1984, and the hardtop body style was the only one offered. It was the top level model at Japanese Toyota Auto Store dealerships, sharing its platform with the Mark II and Cresta. This was the first model year of the Toyota Chaser (third generation, X70), 1984 to 1987, which took over from the Toyota Chaser (second generation, X60); the 1985 model year follows it.
