In August 1982 the 2.0 liter six cylinder 1G-GEU twincam with the new engine family name LASRE alpha, standing for lightweight, advanced, super response, and engine, was added to the Chaser, and the series R and M engines were phased out. It was the last model year covered for the Toyota Chaser (second generation, X60), 1980 to 1983, and the Toyota Chaser (third generation, X70) came next, following the 1981 model year. Model year pages for the Toyota Chaser run from 1977 to 2001.
