The XV10 was the wide body Camry. Japanese tax rules kept the Japan-only V30 narrow, so Toyota built a wider car for the rest of the world, which reached North America in the autumn of 1991 as a 1992 model and was sold in Japan as the Toyota Scepter. It was also the first car Toyota promoted as its second world car after the Corolla, with a high level of finish borrowed from the new Lexus models. It came as a sedan and a station wagon, gained a coupe for the 1994 model year and a new aluminum V6 in 1994, and was exported from Australia to Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
