The Sumo of 1995 was in its third year as the second generation, with fuel injection and a catalytic converter on its 1.2 liter engine, which made 54 PS in European trim. Full time four wheel drive with the ECVT had been added the year before, and an oil cooler made the European versions better suited to light towing. The Sumo shared many characteristics with the Sambar. The market that the Sumo was targeted at was refocused towards the Subaru Forester.
