In 1996 the Sumo was in its fourth year as the second generation, a microvan sold as the Domingo in Japan and the Libero in Europe, and in Taiwan as the Estratto. Power was 54 PS in European form and the van had all new sheet metal that matched the related Sambar range, with selectable or full time four wheel drive. The Sumo shared many characteristics with the Sambar. The market that the Sumo was targeted at was refocused towards the Subaru Forester.
