In March 2021 the Touring SP and the Asaki LE, a six seat grade available only with the diesel engine, were added to the CX-8 range in Australia, and in October 2021 a new six seat 2.5 SP Exclusive variant was released in Thailand. The CX-8 was a three row version of the CX-5, seating six or seven, with 209 liters of luggage space behind the third row. The CX-8 was Mazda's flagship SUV in Japan, as the larger, export-only CX-9 is not sold in the country.
