Mazda revived the Carol name in October 1989 for the Autozam Carol, which Suzuki produced for Mazda on the platform and mechanicals of the Alto, with an interior and boldly curved exterior that were largely its own. It had a 547 cc F5B engine, replaced within four months by the larger AA6 Carol of February 1990 with a 657 cc F6A engine. The car was sold in Japan as a kei car, built to the size and engine limits of that class. Its model years run from 1989 to 1994.
