The second Wrangler, the TJ, was unveiled at the 1996 Detroit auto show as an early 1997 model, after six years of work, and reached showrooms in April 1996. It brought back the round headlights of the classic Jeeps and replaced leaf springs with front and rear coil springs for better ride and handling. The long wheelbase Unlimited model was introduced for the 2004 model year after an absence of 18 years. There was no 1996 model year Wrangler. Its model years run from 1997 to 2006.
