The Chantez was a two door Mazda kei car introduced in July 1972, with a longer wheelbase than most of its rivals and the two stroke AA engine of the Porter, mounted in the front and driving the rear wheels. The name is the French for to sing. Mazda had planned a single rotor Wankel engine for it, but the rotary engine was ruled out of the kei class, and sales ended in 1976 on the eve of new kei regulations. Mazda did not offer another kei passenger car until the Carol in 1989. This site gives every generation and every model year its own page, in one generation: the single generation (1972 to 1976).
