In late 1974, anticipating a change in the law at the turn of the year, the trunk lid and the front bumper of the Chantez were modified to fit larger size license plates. The Chantez of 1974 was in its third year, with a two stroke engine of 35 PS, which could dispatch the 400 meter sprint in 20.6 seconds, and the GL, GF, GL II and GF II trims. The Chantez is a two-door kei car introduced by Mazda in July 1972. The name chantez is second-person plural present indicative of chanter, which in French means to sing.
