By 1968 the Transit was a mainstay of European light commercial vehicle sales, built at Southampton in England and at the Genk factory in Belgium, which had produced Transits since 1965. It was available with the Essex V4 petrol engines and the Perkins diesel, and as the first product of Ford of Europe it was sold across Western Europe and Australia. The generation would stay largely unaltered for twelve years until the major update of 1977.
