The TX5 Turbo was launched in Australia in March 1986 as the flagship, with a 117 horsepower turbo engine tied to a five speed manual, and all Telstars were converted to run on unleaded petrol that year. It had two tone paint, alloy wheels, a rear spoiler and air conditioning as standard. The Telstar was a Mazda 626 with Ford badges and some local styling, sold where Ford wanted a mid size car. Ford later replaced it in most markets with the Mondeo, which was developed as a world car.
