The Taunus 17M P2 of 1957 was the first of a line of bigger and more expensive cars as postwar German prosperity grew. It was as long as the British Consul Mk2 but different, with tailfins in the style of 1955 American Fords, and was nicknamed the Baroque Taunus. It was named after the Taunus mountain range in Germany and was often a close relative of a British Ford. The Taunus was the family car of Ford Germany, sold under the 12M, 15M, 17M, 20M and 26M names over several generations.
